Former Ghana international Mohammed Ahmed Polo has stated that no home-based player currently qualifies for a place in the Black Stars squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
He, however, noted that except for Benjamin Asare, the captain of Accra Hearts of Oak and the Stars’ first-choice goalkeeper.

Polo emphasized that, aside from Asare, none of the players in the domestic league possesses the necessary quality to compete at the highest level.
“Apart from Benjamin Asare, no Ghana Premier League player is quality enough to be at the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” he told Takoradi-based Connect FM.
He supported his argument by referencing a recent match between his former club, Hearts of Oak, and Kumasi Asante Kotoko, remarking that the standard of play was below par.
“The quality of the Ghana Premier League has gone down drastically. I watched the Super Clash the other time and didn’t enjoy it because the players weren’t good enough.
“Despite the red card for Hearts of Oak in the game, Asante Kotoko couldn’t create anything significant in the game and it all go down to quality,” Polo added.
