Afro-dancehall and reggae musician, Stonebwoy, has revealed that his relationship with his former record label became strained after his “Jejereje” hit track was used by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a campaign song.
Speaking on Anopa Bofo on Angel TV and Angel FM on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, Stonebwoy explained that the political use of the track led to misunderstandings with his label.
“The record label I was working with at the time wasn’t happy with the fact that I was aligning politically. They thought we, the locals, had taken money to produce a campaign song,” he said.
He added, “Because of the narratives that surrounded it, I was defenseless. This led to a separation between me and the record label.”
Stonebwoy clarified that his intention for “Jejereje” was purely creative.
“December is for elections, and people would want a Christmas hit,” he noted.
He also questioned the public’s selective criticism, pointing out that political parties often engage musicians during campaigns.
“Don’t people use songs for campaigns during election periods? The New Patriotic Party (NPP) even paid some musicians to perform on stage during their campaigns,” he said.
