Real Madrid star forward Kylian Mbappé is at the centre of an unusual controversy after reports emerged that his club’s medical staff passed him fit after allegedly assessing the wrong knee.
According to French broadcaster Daniel Riolo, who broke the exclusive story, Mbappé is reportedly furious with Real’s medical staff over the glaring error in the evaluation of his knee problem.
The journalist claims that Real Madrid examined Mbappé’s knee, declared it fit, and made him available to manager Álvaro Arbeloa.
“But there was a major mix-up: the Blancos’ doctors apparently examined the wrong knee, the right one – whereas it was actually the left one that was causing problems, as confirmed later in Paris during a second check-up.
“This would explain the numerous redundancies within the Merengues’ medical staff,” he reported.
However, the World Cup winner has dismissed the rumours, insisting that the story surrounding the alleged medical error is false.
“My knee is fine, much better. I didn’t know why I was in pain; I was lucky enough to get the right diagnosis when I came here. It’s healing quite well, even though I know there has been a lot of speculation and false claims have been made.
“That’s the life of a top-level athlete; we’re used to people saying things without checking them or without any factual basis,” he said.
