One major problem I have observed since time in memorial with coach Addo is poor communication skills on and off the pitch.
It is imperative to state that effective communication skills must be described as a ticket to the success of every visionary or success oriented football coach.
A determined football coach must possess strong communication skills, including clarity, active listening, non-verbal cue awareness, and empathy, to build trust and improve football performances.
A qualified and dedicated football coach must demonstrate communication skills, including delivering concise instructions, offering constructive, solution-focused feedback rather than just criticism, and adapting communication styles to individual players’ needs.
With the advent of technology, video analysis, and now artificial intelligence(AI), football coaching requires clear, concise, and consistent communication, adapting methods to suit individual players’ team needs. He must be an active listener, respond to constructive feedback, apply effectively non-verbal communication (body language), and have emotional intelligence to motivate players and build trust when the going gets tough on and off the pitch.
Effective coaches prioritize positive reinforcement and foster two-way dialogue or communication rather than just talking or allowing them to be manipulated by external forces (interference) as it were.
Instead of giving answers to numerous questions, ask questions that challenge players to solve problems and reflect on their actions.
The coach should, at a point, try to individualise his communication to strategically adapt communication styles to suit different players.
He must do well to build rapport, establish a trusting environment by being consistent in language, being sympathetic, empathetic, and ensuring two-way conversation. Know when to intervene in a crisis situation, whom to speak to, and how to keep messages relevant, particularly before, during, and after match days.
Decision by the GFA to sack coach Otto Addo is much anticipated. The coach has been given the leverage, latitude, and platform to rewrite his script, but unfortunately, he couldn’t live up to the billing.
GFA, is the timing appropriate?
Do you have the rightful replacement considering what is at hand for the World Cup?
Time to open the page of crisis analysis, crisis management, and crisis resolution.
