Commuters and pedestrians who ply the Awoshie Palas Town road in the Greater Accra region are lamenting over the deplorable state of the road network there.
Presenting the frustration of the people in an interview with Angel Online, chairman of the Palas-Town lorry station, Mr. Yaw Manu painted a disturbing picture of the situation.
“In every three days, drivers are left with no option than to send their cars for repairs due to excess damage caused by the deplorable state of the road,” he remarked.
He claimed, “we have made appeals to the Assemblyman of which he always assures to make sure the information gets to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) yet there has been no response from him”.
A resident asserted, “We can’t take this anymore. I sell porridge at Palas Town and the bad state of our road has affected my business. I always run at a loss”.
According to another trader who plies her trade along the road also ply the same route, shoddy works have been done on the road by successive governments. As a result, he said, the road gets damaged as soon as it rains.
“Especially with a specific place called ‘school junction’. The place always gets flooded whenever it rains so it looks risky when using the road. Besides, the potholes delay us whenever we use the road because, the drivers have to slow down.”
