The Anti-robbery Task Force of the Ashanti Regional Police Command has gunned down two robbers for attempting to rob a gold dealer at Manso Dawusaso in the Amansie South District.
The robbers, numbering about seven, invaded the residence of the gold dealer, disarmed his private security guard and fired shots into the residence.
A statement cited by Angelonline.com.gh, reads as follows: “a police combat team that had mounted a 24-hour surveillance on the gang, returned fire to protect the innocent lives in and around the property”.
“One of the deceased robbers known as Lukeman, had been granted bail by the Dunkwa Circuit Court at an earlier appearance and the scheduled to reappear on October 27, 2021, for allegedly robbing passengers on the Dunkwa-Ayanfuri highway”, the police added.
According to the police, Abraham Kwasi Tetteh, another suspect linked to the crime has been arrested while, a manhunt is underway to track and arrest four other suspects who escaped.
The Acting Director-General of Public Affairs, ACP Kwesi Ofori, who believes some gang members might have sustained gunshot wounds, has charged health facilities around Amansi South District to report the presence of any individual or group of people with gunshot wounds to the police.
He also appealed to the public to volunteer information on any individual with noticeable gunshot wounds within the area to the police.
The police service further assured the public of making crime undesirable to criminals.
