Fifteen suspects of Independent Representatives (IRs) of Qnet, a network marketing company, currently in police custody are expected to re-appear before the Koforidua Circuit Court today, Tuesday, October 19, 2021.
The suspects are assisting with ongoing investigations following their arrest by the Police Personnel deployed from the Counter-Terrorism and Concentration Camp for engaging in fraudulent activities.
The accused persons were arrested in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital on Friday, October 15, 2021, during a special swoop carried under the command of Chief Superintendent Wejong Raymond Adofeim.
The accused persons, comprising of some West African nationals, have been charged for defrauding by false pretense when they were arraigned before the circuit court on Monday, October 18, 2021.
Though, they pleaded not guilty, the presiding judge, Her Honour Marian Affoh Polley remanded them into police custody after their application for bail was denied.
Background
On Friday, October 15, 2021, a team of police personnel from the Counter-Terrorism and Concentration Camp led by Chief Superintendent Wejong Raymond Adofeim arrested dozens of Qnet Agents together with hundreds of their recruits.
They were arrested at different locations within the Koforidua municipality for allegedly defrauding people under the guise of network marketing.
Following the arrest, they were screened at the Koforidua Jubilee Park before being remanded into police custody.
