Hiplife artiste, Kofi Kinaata’s ‘Things Fall Apart’ is set to be studied by students of the Kwame Nkrumah Science and Technology (KNUST).
This was announced via Twitter by an account tagged as Voice of KNUST.
According to Voice of KNUST, this will be the third time the institute has recommended a song from Kofi Kinaata to be studied as a literary piece.
In the paper attached to the post, parts of the song, which are originally sung in Fante, have all been translated into English.
The page noted that the song has been authorised to be studied by level 200s for the first semester in the 2021/2022 academic year.
Reasons for the song selection was due to the literary devices and lyrical arrangements of stanzas set up in Things Fall Apart.
“Because of the literary devices and the lyrical arrangement of stanzas set up in Kofi Kinaata’s Song “Things Fall Apart”, the English Department have authorised the song to be studied by level 200’s for the first semester of the 2021/2022 academic year.”
The page also indicated that in 2016, the hit song Susuka was recommended, and then later in 2018, the hit Confession was a course material and finally in 2022, Things Fall Apart the 2019 hit song has been chosen.
A common denominator for the approved songs is the fact that all have earned him the Songwriter of the Year award in the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
Kofi Kinaata is the only artiste to win the coveted Songwriter of the Year award four times.
In a similar event, Level 200 students of Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) were asked to examine misogynistic implications Fancy Gadam’s ‘Total Cheat’ in their 2018 semester examinations.
