Black maidens through to next round after win over Senegal

A commanding 3-0 home score line handed Ghana U-17 female national team a victory over Senegal, in the return leg of the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The win guarantee the Black maidens the needed qualification to the next stage as they post a 4-0 aggregate win over their Senegalese counterparts.

Ghana went into the game having recorded a 1-0 score line in the first leg two weeks ago in Senegal.

The Young Taranga Lionesses of Senegal started the game posing a threat from the run of lanky winger Hapsatou Malado Diallo.

She came close to score in the 20th minute but the defensive line of Coach Baba Nuhu’s ladies was on alert to deal with the situations.

Few minutes later, the Black maidens took over the game as forward Karim Abdulai had three clear cut chances but the brilliant goalkeeping display of Adji Ndiaye prevented the home side from scoring.

The first department of the game ended goalless after both teams failed to utilize their chances.

Ghana returned from the recess with some hunger and finally took the lead in the 49th minute with a solo run from Captain Georgina Ayisha Aoyem.

Ten minutes later, the maidens doubled their lead through Princess Owusu’s header.

Princess Owusu later saw red in the 71st minute for a tackle on Senegalese defender, Ndeye Tida reducing the Black Maidens to 10 players.

Abdulai Karima completed the demolition exercise for the home side in the 73rd minute with a curler into the top corner of the post.

The 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to be hosted in India in October, 2022, will be the 7th edition of the biennial tournament.
