The Ghana Education Service has refuted media reportage claiming that a teacher trainee has impregnated 24 school girls, four female teachers, and the headmistress at one of the government schools at Asokore Mampong in the Ashanti Region.
A statement from the Asokore Mampong Municipal Education Directorate through the GES described the publication as “totally falseā since it has not engaged ācolleges of education to post teacher traineesā into any of its schools since its inception.
āTeacher trainees are posted within their home-regions. Trainees are posted to schools in districts within their region of studies and are mostly sent to schools that lack trained teachers. Asokore Mampong does not have such challenge”
āThere are eight M/A schools under the education directorate, all of these schools are headed by males except Aboabo M/A JHS which is headed by a female who is far advance in age and is due for retirement in 2023,ā the statement explains.
The statement further emphasised that it has data to prove the reduction of teenage pregnancy in the school in question as the Girl’s Education Unit has over the past three years recorded lower cases of pregnant school girls in the Municipality.
It added that the directorate is ever ready for information and clarification on the matter and other related development.
The GES urged the media to be circumspect and crosscheck their facts before carrying out issues regarding the education sector in the Asokore Municipality.
