Striking workers of the Metro Mass Transit Limited have been asked to return to work as management works on their demands.
According to management of the Company, staff should anticipate their unpaid salaries by Friday, October 14, 2022.
Head of Communications at Metro Mass, George Asante, who made the disclosure on Citi News also pleaded with staff not to call for dismissal of their Managing Director based on economic challenges.
“By Friday, we will be able to close the August payroll, and it will be left with just one month’s salary arrears. I don’t think that, it is fair for workers to use current economic challenges to call for the firing of their Managing Director”, said Mr. Asante.
His assurance comes after Metro Mass Transit drivers at the Kumasi Depot embarked on a sit-down strike to protest non-payment of their salaries.
The drivers alleged that they have not been paid for the past three months for which reason they have laid down their tools.
Angel News’ Bismark Mensah on Wednesday reported on the Anopa Bofo Morning Show that “the drivers have abandoned their buses.”
He added that passengers who are unaware of the sit-down strike have become stranded at the Kumasi Depot of the Metro Mass Transit Limited.
In an interview with Madam Adelaide, one of the passengers, she said “I am from Adankwa and I want to travel to Sunyani…I don’t know what to do now because I picked the exact fare Metro Mass charges but now I will have to call for additional money when I get to Sunyani [because using a different car may cost more].”
Another female passenger disclosed that “I feel frustrated because my plans have been distorted. I should have been on my way by now but [I’m still stuck here due to the strike].”
The drivers have however, remained tight-lipped and unwilling to speak to the Angel News’ correspondent after previously agreeing to comment on the development.
