The Volta Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has cautioned the ruling government against any attempt to treat the Member of Parliament of North Tongu Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, unjustly in court.
The vociferous MP is expected to appear in court on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, following a lawsuit against him over his ‘scandalous’ publications against Reverend Victor Kusi-Boateng, a Secretary to the Board of the National Cathedral secretariat.
But ahead of the court hearing, the NDC Volta Regional caucus in a statement signed by its Communication Officer, Kafui Sorkpa Agbleze said the MP has their backing and would do everything in their reach to protect him against any scheme by the government.
According to them, the move by the governing party is part of its efforts to gag and “cow” Mr. Ablakwa “into docility” to prevent him from holding the government accountability.
“The NDC in the Volta region would want to once again inform President Nana Addo’s government that the party is strongly and fully behind Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa, and will at any time mass up at the courts in support of their hard working MP for North Tongu should he be unjustifiably handled.
“We intensely call on this government not to embarrass this nation further by doing anything untoward to Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa because currently its popularity is extremely low and that burning desire for the ordinary Ghanaian to vent their anger is ubiquitous.
“We want to loudly and clearly once again warn that should anything unjust happen to Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa in his bid to heed the invitation to appear in court on 21st February, there certainly will be a furious spark of reactions, not only in the Volta Region, but across the Country,” parts of the statement indicated.
The party is thus urging its members across the country to make themselves available in court on the court hearing day to show solidarity to their legislator.
