Electric buses to operate in Ghana soon – Bawumia

Ghana will soon import electric buses for use as public transportation, Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said.

The electric buses, the Vice President who is also the 2024 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) addressing a stakeholders engagement in Kaneshie in the Okaikoi South Constituency said the piloting of the electric bus system will commence in Accra before the end of 2024.

The decision forms part of a major policy to ensuring that the country gets an accessible and affordable means of transportation for the general public.

“Dr Bawumia said the aim is to ensure that transportation cost goes down by at least 40%.

“Transport fares are high mainly because of two things, the cost of fuel and the cost of spare parts…it is hoped that the electric bus system will help bring down the cost of public transport by at least 40%…,” he said.

The Vice President continued that his administration will create more jobs for the teaming unemployed youth to reduce unemployment.
