President John Dramani Mahama has charged members of the 120-Day Social Contract Task Force to focus on their respective sectors and swiftly implement the campaign promises made to Ghanaians.
Speaking at the inaugural meeting today, he emphasized the urgency of delivering results within the first 120 days of his administration, urging officials to remain committed to the government’s development agenda.
President Mahama further stated that they had developed 120-day plan outlining key priorities they intend to achieve within the first 120 days.
He explained that many of the promises made to Ghanaians fall under various ministries, allowing sector heads to take ownership of these commitments and ensure they meet their targets.
“As you are aware, part of our social contract with the people of Ghana, for which they gave us this massive mandate, we came with a 120 day plan that contains a list of some things we intend to achieve within the first 120 days, off course several of these are sectoral and so it was not possible to conduct this meeting before the minister of the various sectors had been vetted and sworn in.” he said
He added that while some promises have deadlines of 90 days or 14 days, others require parliamentary approval, such as the removal of certain taxes.
“Some are 90 days, some were 14 days, assemble a full cabinet within 14 days we achieved that, and then some are within 90 days, others necessary must go with some things, for instance the removal of some taxes and rationalization of taxes can only be in the budget because you need to do revenue measures and put those taxes instrument before parliament”
He, therefore, urged the task force to work diligently to meet these targets.
“Now that you’ve been sworn in, this meeting is meant to focus sectorally on the things that fall within your sectors and that is why you’ve been chosen because many of those issues are with your sectors so that we can own in and make sure we achieve them on target”
“So, all of you are supposed to focus on your sectors and work so that we achieve all the targets that we set ourselves in the 120 day plan
Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor and Chairperson of the task force, assured President Mahama that they would not fail him in executing the mandate given to them.
She emphasized that President Mahama’s word is his bond, warning that anyone who obstructs the fulfillment of his promises to Ghanaians would be held accountable.
She, therefore, pledged on behalf of the task force to use their utmost efforts to deliver on their mandate.
