The Prelate of Worldwide Word Ministries, Prophet John Anokye has expressed concerns about the challenges of setting up a business in Ghana.
Speaking at the official opening of the ‘Fuel It’ filling station at Ablekuma Olebu on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, he noted that excessive tax demands and fines pose significant hurdles for businesses, making it difficult to operate with clarity.
“We keep talking about investment-friendly but if someone comes to set up a business here, it becomes very tough.
“Even within ourselves when we establish businesses, we face unnecessary tax invasions and fines, things are not clear,” he said.
In his view, a good system with a broader tax base and lower tax rates would make the environment more conducive to investment.
He emphasized that successful individuals, with financial resources will be more likely to invest in the country, particularly in sectors like housing and trade.
John Anokye attributed the trend of investors withdrawing funds from the country to unfavourable government policies and a lack of business-friendly environment.
“Because of government policy and the way we haven’t really understood business in the country is why many people find a way of taking their monies out of the country to invest in other places,” he stressed.
He further stated that Ghana’s business environment should allow business investors to reap profits if the country grasps the fundamentals of business.
