Parliament has passed the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, aiming to create more jobs for the unemployed youth in the country.
Speaking to the media after the passage of the bill, the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Mahama Ayariga, said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) promised to reform the economy since the economy is a major employer of millions of youth who voted for the NDC during the 2024 general elections.
According to him, the government wants to see many young people working, which is the aim of introducing the 24-Hour Economy to help reduce unemployment in the country.
He added that work will be done in shifts, with three (3) shifts or more, either at night or during the day, with the aim of creating jobs and providing employment to many Ghanaian youth who are unemployed.
Mr. Ayariga stressed that the Ghanaian economy has been in a bad state for the past eight (8) years under the NPP government.
“The youth were fleeing the country in search of jobs; So, the NDC released the 24-Hour Economy policy to be the game-changer for the country,” he stated.
Mahama Ayariga further noted that before the bill becomes a reality, it has to be backed by the constitution to provide legal mandates, as Parliament has passed the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill.
