An agricultural consultant, Peter Amoley, believes that Ghana’s agricultural industry must go beyond production into industrialization, as part of the many measures to tackle problems of the sector head-on.
Speaking to Serwaa Sekyiwaa on Anopa Bofo on Friday, February 13, 2026, he stated that the government is supposed to prioritize industrialization at the moment because production is not for consumption alone.
“The government has to industrialize agriculture with intentions; this is what he is supposed to be doing now, it’s not just production alone,” he said.
He pointed out that the farmers are producing maize, cocoa, and beans in abundance, along with all foodstuffs; however, the country lacks industries to process them for resources.
“These are the problems we will continue to face if we don’t industrialize agriculture in the country. The country will continue to debate in cocoa, palm tree, coconut, and other vegetable crops,” he added.
He further urged the government to revamp industries to ensure they operate effectively, thereby reducing reliance on foreign price fluctuations.
