The Vice President of Ghana, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has emphasised President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to advancing women’s leadership at the highest levels of governance and public service.
At the second Annual Women in Leadership Conference, held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, she announced that the President has directed all public institutions to ensure female representation in leadership roles.
“His Excellency has directed that public service agencies ensure a minimum of 30% female representation in leadership positions by this year, with an increase to 50% in 2023,” she said.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also highlighted President Mahama’s ongoing focus on the vital contributions of women to national development.
Furthermore, she explained that this directive aligns with the requirements of the Affirmative Action Act, 2024 (Act 1121), which aims to address gender imbalance.
“This directive is a deliberate policy measure to advance the objective of the Affirmative Action Act and institutionalise gender equity as a cornerstone of our development agenda,” she added.
