Peter Mac Manu, the 2020 Campaign Manager of the New Patriotic Party, and the Deputy Minister of Trade, Carlos Ahenkorah, have been admitted at the Intensive Care Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
The two have been confirmed as testing positive for the deadly COVID-19.
The pandemic which was first recorded in Ghana on March 12 has claimed 117 lives so far and infected over 18,000 persons as of July 1, 2020.
Mac Manu and Carlos Ahenkorah who is also the Member of Parliament for Tema West, add to the list of government officials who have tested positive for coronavirus. They include Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman Manu; CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority Dr. Lydia Dsane-Selby, and Chief Executive Officer of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr Daniel Asare.
The governing New Patriotic Party has lost at least two prominent figures to the virus.
In mid-June, the Mayor of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, Anthony K.K. Sam, died of Covid-19 at the University of Ghana Medical Centre.
The former General Secretary of NPP and Chief Executive of Forestry Commission, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, also known as Sir John, died of the virus on Wednesday July 1, 2020 at the Intensive Care Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
