A final year student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has been arrested for allegedly murdering a driver over GHC1,200 debt.
The suspect, Emmanuel Awuah, 23, is currently being held at Pankrono divisional police command in the Ashanti region.
With the support of an accomplice, who is at large, the suspect took his victim to a think forest and murdered him in cold blood.
The victim, Thomas Danso, is an uber driver, so the suspects ostensibly hired him for his rounds but ended up killing him because the former had not been able to pay the money he owed.
The heinous crime happened in a forest between Atwima Gyankobaa and Hwidiem.
The Tafo Divisional Police Commander, ACP Akwasi Annor Arhin told Pure FM’s Osei Kwadwo that the owner of the uber car, Daniel Owusu lodged a complaint on July 12 that he was unable to establish contact with his driver.
“What he does is that normally when the car goes to work they communicated every two hours but for about four hours he could not hear of him,” ACP Annor Arhim narrated.
The same day after the complaint, the car owner at about 9pm called to inform the police that the vehicle has been spotted at Nyinahini. He said the vehicle was traced and impounded, its occupants were arrested
The main suspect was later arrested and he confessed to the crime. He led the police to the crime scene where the partially decomposed body of Kwame Danso, aged 24, was retrieved for preservation as investigations continue.
Mr Annor Arhim said the suspect had told investigators that he had planned to sell the car, take out his GHC1,200 and hand over the rest to the owner.
The suspect would be arraigned on Thursday.
