The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has sent words of condolence to the family of the late Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfatseman, Ekow Quansah Hayford.

The message was contained in a statement which was read by the Rt. Hon Speaker of Parliament, Prof Aaron Mike Oquaye in Parliament on Friday.

The President assured the August House that the security agencies will do everything possible to bring the murderers of the late MP to book.

Commenting on the death of the Legislator, the second deputy majority chief whip, Moses Anim said the sudden demise of their colleague will have adverse effect on the work of Parliament as according to him, the late Quansah Hayford was someone who really executed his work well.

He said the late MP performed well both in the Chamber and at the committee level.

Mr Anim who is also the MP for Trobu in the Greater Accra Region ceased the opportunity to call on state authorities to provide MPs with personal security to maximize their safety since ‘we are vulnerable and targets of criminals.’

The minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu joined the conversation by expressing his deepest condolences to the family of the late Ekow Hayford.

He added that the MPs like all other Article 71 office holders deserve police protection.

He said if the state refuses to provide for MPs security, Parliament would do what is appropriate, needful and lawful to seek protection for MPs since MPs lives also matter.

He concluded by calling on the the IGP to do everything possible to improve the general security in the country.
