A former Black Star Team Manager in charge of Commercials, Kojo Bonsu, is optimistic that should Ghanaian athletes start preparing now, they will get the needed results in the next Olympic games.
According to him, not much has been invested in the sports disciplines to fetch the results the country has been expecting over the years.
During his interview on Joy FM’s Sports Link, Hon. Bonsu questioned the country’s delays in preparing towards the games.
“Why do we wait till Olympic year?” he asked, adding “if we start now, the next four-five years, we will get results.”
He however suggested that the National Sports Authority adopts a National Sports Development Agenda that will ensure that the athletes reach the peak, being very competitive and in the long run attract sponsors.
“We need to have a national sports development agenda which is devoid of politics. Select 10 disciplines like football, athletics, boxing, Judo etc and prepare well.
“This is not NPP and NDC matter. We all come together, serious for it then we target 2024 Paris Olympic games and the world championship. You’ll see that when this happens, companies will come and sponsor.”
That said, Ghana has been to the Olympic games 17 times wining five medals in total, the latest of the competition being the Tokyo 2020 Olympics which saw the country wining a bronze medal in boxing.
