The driver of a vehicle carrying goats and sheep that were stolen in various towns in the Assin South District, lost his life when the Police engaged in a gun battle with four suspected thieves at Abura Kwadoegya in the Abura Aseku Kwamankese District of the Central Region.
One person, Ebenezer Jones, was also arrested in the process while two others escaped. The suspect is currently in Police custody.
One Police officer, Detective Lance Corporal, Nii Armah Ashitey who was stationed at Nyankomase Ahenkro also suffered a knee injury during the excahnges and was rushed to the hospital.
His condition is stable per the information at hand.
According to information available to Angel News, the police at Assin Manso received intelligence that a group of young men numbering about four had loaded goats and sheep into a taxi cab with registration number CR-1097-18 and Toyota Highlander with registration number GS-2098-19.
The goats were suspected to have been stolen from an unspecified location. This caused the Police to dispatch a team to chase the robbers.
The robbers upon seeing the police vehicle approaching started firing gunshots at them in an attempt to escape.
The Police team then retruned fire and were abe to deflate the tyre of the taxi cuasing it to somersault in the process leading to the death of the driver of the vehicle and some of the goats.
The deceased name has been identified as Isaac.
Ebenezer Jones, who was the driver of the Toyota Highlander was arrested when he went to he went to a fitting shop to inflate the tyre the Police deflated.
After the battle, the police were able to retrieve 12 live goats, 11 live sheep, and 8 dead goats.
