The New Juaben South Municipal Assembly has presented 500 dual desks to the Ghana Education Service for subsequent distribution to some selected 22 schools within the Municipality.
The donation exercise, which also includes 300 mono desks, 30 teachers’ tables and chairs, 30 hexagonal tables and 240 chairs for kindergarten, is to aid teaching and learning.
Handing over the furniture, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Isaac Appaw Gyasi, said President Akufo-Addo has placed much emphasis on education hence the introduction of the Free SHS Policy.
He said to enhance the quality of education then it must come with good infrastructure and furniture which have a correlation with performance.
“The challenges within our schools are many. Many schools lack tables and chairs for learning and that explains why in some schools, students are found sitting on the floor or packed on a single desk to study. I am committed to ensuring that all schools are furnished with furniture”.
The MCE admitted that he is not pleased with the situation and therefore the New Juaben Municipal Assembly is tasking itself to furnish schools with proper tables and chairs to enhance teaching and learning.
Mr. Isaac Appaw Gyasi urged the teachers to supervise the pupils in taking care of furniture.
“Let’s ensure that pupils don’t jump or stand on the desks. I will personally follow up on all the schools to make sure our teachers and school heads maintain the furniture so they last long. Lets”
Receiving the furniture on behalf of the Municipal Education Director, the Head of Planning and Statistics, Benedicta Mensah, expressed gratitude to the Assembly and government for the kind gesture.
“We really need the desks because our schools lack furniture. We shall do our best to use them judiciously so that money is not spent on furniture again but to purchase other things like books for us”
