The National Investment Bank (NIB) is giving customers a 14-day ultimatum to activate accounts that have been inactive for a minimum of five years and published as “dormant” or risk losing them to the Bank of Ghana (BoG).
The bank noted that processes have kicked in to begin transferring the dormant accounts to the Central Bank which is in accordance with the Bank and Specialized Deposit-Taking Institutions Act, 2016 (Act 930).
As a result, accounts of persons which are not activated from the day of publication to the 14th day, would “be deemed transferred to the Bank of Ghana in accordance with Act 930”.
The notification comes as an update on an earlier notice informing the general public to contact NIB branches to rectify the issue should their names be found in the list of dormant accounts.
