Former President, John Dramani Mahama has said that his decision to re-contest to lead the country is as a result of the failure of the Akufo-Addo-led government to provide the best of leadership to this country.
The ex-President who was speaking in the Oti Region said he has felt an urge to come back and ‘rescue’ Ghanaians after noticing that the current administration is not performing well.
“I could have sat back, relaxed and choose not to care because I am a former President and per the Constitution, former Presidents are to be cared for until they die but sometimes when you sit back and observe the direction at which the President is taking the country, you simply can’t help than to intervene…,” he said during a meeting with stakeholders of the NDC in the Oti Region.
He mentioned that the Akufo-Addo administration has failed to deliver and ought to be changed for a more competent person like him to take over.
“I can’t sit and watch unconcerned because the country is going the wrong directio…we expected this government to take the country to a higher level after we handed over to him…but the country is retrogressing…,” he said.
The former President who was defeated by President Akufo-Addo in 2016 and 2020 is seeking to lead the NDC once more.
He has as part of his campaign for re-election commenced a ‘Thank You’ tour to all regions.
