A form one student of Konongo Odumasi Senior High School has been stabbed to death as he resisted bullying from seniors.
The 17-year-old student, Larhan Sam-una, was pronounced dead on arrival after been rushed to the Konongo Government Hospital according to a statement from the police service.
The student met his untimely death after prep hours on Friday after a scuffle ensued when some Form Two students on a bullying spree attempted to bully him and other colleagues.
An eyewitness, who narrated the incident in a Joy News interview monitored by angelonline.com.gh, said that “they were coming to call one of the Form One students to go and bully him at the dormitory so we the Form One students said we would not allow them…so I saw that Tupac, the one who was holding the knife removed the knife and used it to ‘chuke’ [stab] Samuna”.
Meanwhile the Ghana Police service through their statement has called on authorities and stakeholders in education to discourage bullying and all forms of punishment among students.
Their conviction stems from the fact that the Form One student lost his life as a result of bullying.
“The police are of the firm conviction that bullying and other forms of punishment among must be discouraged by all to guarantee the safety of students who are the future leaders of this country”, the 7th November statement read.
According to the police, they have been in contact with family of the deceased and are providing them with the necessary support needed.
They also noted that they are in touch with leadership of GES to work together to develop a sensitization programme on criminal offences for students and staff of all schools to avert similar occurrences in the future.
