The Black Stars of Ghana has been placed in Pot 2 of the final playoffs for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
After the group stages, 10 teams from the African continent qualified to the final round of qualifiers with five places to fight for in the biggest tournament in Qatar.
The teams includes; Senegal, Cameroon, Egypt, Algeria, DR. Congo, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria, Ghana and Tunisia.
With this, Ghana, ranked 7th in Africa on the FIFA Coca-cola men’s rankings is left unseeded in pot 2 alongside Egypt, Mali, DR. Congo, and Cameroon who are all outside the top five ranked teams.
Meanwhile, Algeria, Senegal, Nigeria, Morroco and Tunisia, the best five ranked teams in the FIFA rankings were seeded in pot 1.
However, teams from the same pot can’t face each other, therefore, the Black Stars will be paired with one of the pot 1 teams−Algeria, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, and Tunisia−in the playoffs.
The draw for the playoffs will therefore take place on December 18, 2021 and will be decided by two-legged play-off matches due to take place in March 2022.
Ghana will be hoping for a fourth world cup football after 2006, 2010, and 2014.
