International afro roots music star, Rocky Dawuni, has reacted to a post by afro-beat artiste, Wendy Shay, calling on him to show her how to gain a Grammy Awards nomination.

The US-based Ghanaian artiste speaking on Angel 102.9FM’s Drive Time Show, Angel Drive with Quophi Okyeame said he wouldn’t have made it this far if he had not been diligent and creative.

“Grammys do not check for popularity but classic, great and incredible works and those must be the focus of artistes…I don’t do songs for nominations, my focus is on creativity,” he said.

Giving further account on his Grammy Nomination, he said, most people do not consider the fact that he has been around for long and has been putting in the work back in the days when his album “Crusade” became a global hit.

Rocky Dawuni’s 6th album “Branches of the same tree” was nominated in the Best Global Musical album category at a virtual event cermony heralding the 64th Grammy Award on November 23, 2021.

This is the second time the musician who is also a song writer and record producer has been nominated for the prestigious awards ceremony. He was first nominated in the 58th Annual Grammy Awards in the year 2015.

His album “Hymes for the Rebel Soul” also won an award from NWACP Image Awards which made him noticeable in the United States and ‘Africa River fever’.
