The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has left the country to United Arab Emirates (UAE) for a medical review.
The speaker will be out of the country from Friday, January 7, and ends Sunday, January 23, 2022.
A statement signed and issued by the office of the speaker stated that his travelling was in order to “honor an appointment for a medical review in the United Arab Emirates”
The statement also served notice to parliamentarians that the House shall resume its sitting for the first meeting of the second session of the parliament two days after his return to the country.
“It is also important to bring to your attention that the House will resume its sittings for the First Meeting of the Second Session of the Eighth Parliament on Tuesday, 25th January, 2022.”
The speaker highlighted the need for members of the house to undertake a Covid-19 booster vaccination before its resumption as part of the fight against the global pandemic.
“Parliament intends to undertake a Covid-19 (booster) vaccination exercise for Hon Members of Parliament and Officers of the Parliamentary Service, as part of measures to contain the infection and spread of the Coronavirus Disease within the parliamentary precincts, particularly in the wake of the spike in infections as well as the new wave of the Omicron variant of the disease” .
