The Ghana Airport Company (GAC) has directed all airports and airlines, to allow Ghana card holders to board flights into the country without visas.
The directive follows a key ceremony at the headquarters of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal, Canada on February 9, 2022.
The Airport noted that the use of Ghana Card in place of a visa takes effect from March 1, 2022.
A statement issued by GAC noted that the GhanaCard is duly recognized globally as a valid ID card passport, a Machine Readable Travel Document (MRTD) that can be read and verified by the ICAO Public Key Directorate (PKD) at most airports.
“Ghana Airports Company Limited announces to all airports and airlines that holders of a valid Ghana Card should be allowed to board flights to Ghana without the need for a visa”, said the Airport.
Meanwhile, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has corroborated the statement saying that the Ghana Card will be recognized globally as an e-passport starting from the first quarter of the year.Â
According to him the nation has marked a milestone for officially being the 79th member of ICAO.
