Football administrator, Oduro Nyarko, is advocating Sulley Muntari’s return to the Black Stars, ahead of the country’s upcoming FIFA World Cup playoff against Nigeria.
According to the former Wa All Stars Chief Executive Officer, the midfielder has demonstrated that he deserves a return to the current Black Stars team, due to his consistent performances ever since he joined Accra Hearts of Oak.
“Sulley Muntari always give tailored measured passes and he needs to be in Ghana’s squad which will face Nigeria in the upcoming World Cup Play offs,” he told Kumasi-based Sikka FM in an interview.
The 37-year-old joined the Ghana Premier League champions on a one-year contract and has since made four appearances and an assist in the league.
He also played an instrumental role for Coach Samuel Boadu’s side that defeated Kumasi Asante Kotoko 2-1 to win the 2022 President Cup at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ghana hosts Nigeria in the first leg of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff on March 25, at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium before traveling to Abuja for the second leg on March 29.
Black Stars interim coach, Otto Addo is expected to announce the squad for the doubleheader this week.
Sulley Muntari retired from International Football after the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, after he first featured for the team on May 17, 2002, in a friendly match against Slovenia. He continued to become a key figure in the team before his retirement.
He also played 80 times and scored 20 goals, and was an integral member of the team that qualified for the 2006, 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cup tournaments in Germany, South Africa and Brazil respectively.
