President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has jokingly asked the head coach of Black Stars, Otto Addo, to be prepared because he’s going to be kidnapped in Ghana and will not be allowed to go back to Germany.
The Ghanaian President who was elated on Tuesday evening, made the ‘jovial’ statement after German-based interim coach guided the team to qualify to their fourth FIFA World Cup following a 1-1 draw with Nigeria.
Otto Addo who doubles as the assistant coach of Borussia Dortmund, was appointed to replace sacked Milovan Rajivac, after Ghana’s poor performance at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.
President Akufo-Addo who celebrated his birthday same day, said the win was the “best possible birthday gift.”
“Well done, well done. But when you come in we’re going to kidnap you. We’re not going to allow you to go back to Dortmund. So be very careful when you’re entering, you might not be able to leave again,” he told the Coach over the phone.
He added: “I appreciate it, it’s the best birthday gift I could have had, the news of your qualification. It’s excellent. I don’t think people are going to sleep tonight. Congratulations to you, the captain, Thomas Partey, and all the boys and I’m hoping I get to see you when you come in tomorrow.”
