The Ghana Police Service has arrested the Lebanese national who threatened to slit the throat of a Ghanaian on the streets of Osu.
According to the police, “the suspect[Osman Brustani] is in police custody and will be taken through the due process of the law.”
The arrest, which was announced via the official Facebook of the Service, follows a widely circulated video on social media in which a fairly built man with beard is seen wielding a sword from a sheath and was screaming: “come out, come out. I will cut your neck.”
The police earlier stated in a twitter post on Tuesday, April 13, 2022 that “this viral video has come to our attention and we are working on it.”
It added that prior to the arrest, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, reached out to the victim on Tuesday, April 13, 2022, via a telephone call and realised that he seemed traumatised by the incident.
“As a result, upon the IGP’s instruction, the victim has been given psychological support by a clinical psychologist from the Police Hospital. The IGP also followed up with a personal visit to the victim today, Wednesday, 13th April, 2022.”
Meanwhile, in a Facebook post, the Lebanese Embassy in Ghana earlier indicated that “we reject all forms of violence and intimidation, as well as anyone who does not treat the people of the host country with respect and in accordance with applicable laws.”
