Accra Hearts of Oak: All affected players, staff in stable condition – Management

The Management of Accra Hearts of Oak has said all affected players and staffs who were hospitalized following the outbreak of a strange disease that hit the club are responding to treatment and in stable condition.

The team was hit with a strange disease where the majority of club officials and 15 players were hospitalized at different hospitals in the Greater Accra metropolis.

The seriousness of the situation was appreciated when only five players were able to report for training on Monday, May 16, 2022, before their midweek game against Bibiani Gold Stars.

They managed to raise a team after the GFA reportedly turned down their request to postpone its fixture and recorded a 1-0 win, courtesy of a Samuel Inkoom first-half penalty.

Giving an update, the club in a statement confirmed that tests conducted on the team by their medical team indicated that the affected persons contracted severe and acute respiratory infection.

ā€œFollowing numerous reports of an outbreak of illness among the playing body of the club, the Management of Accra Hearts of Oak would like to assure all Phobians and the general public that while, indeed, several players and officials reported ill over the past three days, everyone affected has been given medical attention and are all in stable condition and recovering wellā€

“The medical team will continue to monitor the progress of the affected persons and provide all the assistance to ensure their full and speedily recovery” says the statement.

They assured that efforts are being made to investigate the source of the infections and to make sure “strict measures” are adhered to, to avoid a recurrence in such strange form.

The reigning league champions thanked the general public especially the club’s supporters for their unflinching support and well wishes during the period and assured them of a harm-free incident.
