Three suspected armed robbers are in police grips for shooting an Accra-based Lawyer to death on the Bole-Bamboi Highway in the Savannah Region.
According to the Savannah Regional Police Command, who arrested the three suspects, a fourth suspect, who is currently on the run, is being pursued by the police.
“When they got to a section of the road between Banda Nkwanta and Nuoyiri communities, three armed men emerged from the bush and signalled them to stop and while slowing down, one of the robbers shot and killed the driver”, the Police said in a statement.
The Savannah Regional Police Public Affairs Director, Inspector Owusu Agyekum, said “some suspects were rounded up and we are still carrying on with the investigations. We are still looking for one man but we have three people in our custody.”
“Because of the nature of the activities there at the moment, we don’t want to mention names”, the inspector said in an interview with 3FM.
The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday while the deceased, together with some relatives, was travelling to Jirapa.
Narrating what transpired in a Joy News interview, Michael Badombia, brother of the deceased said blood was gushing out from his brother and splashing on him after their car veered off the road.
After shooting the Lawyer, the robbers tried to open the doors of the vehicle as the car veered off the road and hit a tree but a bull dog in the car barked at them and they bolted.
Explaining why the Lawyer and his siblings were travelling with a bulldog, Inspector Owusu Agyekum said: “the man lives alone so when he is travelling to his hometown where he will be out for three days, he has to carry the bull dog along because there is no one in the house to feed the dog and not that he carried the dog along from protection”.
