The Senior Advisor to President Nana Akufo-Addo, Yaw Osafo Marfo has urged Akim Oda-based Kotoku Royals football team to prioritize their stay in the Ghana Premier League, after securing qualification.
Kotoku Royals endured a successful campaign in the just-ended National Division One League which they emerged champions in Zone three to attain the historic feat.
Having played an instrumental role in the team’s success, Mr. Osafo Marfo has challenged them to make their stay a permanent one in the Ghanaian topflight football.
The former senior Minister appealed on Friday, June 17, 2022, when the entire playing body of Kotoku Royals paid him a courtesy visit.
The move was to formally thank him for his contribution and support towards their qualification to the Ghana Premier League for the first time in history.
“You have made history as the first players and coaches to bring Premier League football to the Eastern Region and the people of Kotoku are proud of you.
“I have been in discussions with your CEO during the season and I am very proud of what you have achieved as a team.
“What lies ahead of you is the most difficult because now you are going to play with the big boys in the Ghana Premier League.
“My challenge to you is that you should make your stay in the Premier League a permanent one. Some of us are here to support you in our small way” Yaw Osafo Marfo said.
The former Akim Oda MP also assured that together with the Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong, and other dignitaries, they will ensure the club honors their home games at the Akim Oda stadium when the seasons kick start.
“I know the condition of your current home grounds and we will discuss how best we can upgrade it to the level or status of a premier league side.
“We do not want a situation whereby though you have qualified for the Premier League, you will be playing your home games away from your traditional grounds”, he promised.
Showing appreciation, the Chief Executive Officer of the club, Linford Asamoah Boadu expressed gratitude to Mr. Osafo Marfo and the other dignitaries who helped graced the colorful ceremony.
He thus welcome the challenge in good faith and was optimistic about winning the MTN FA Cup in their first season of the Ghana Premier League with the necessary support.
Minister of Information (Kojo Opppong Nkrumah), MP for Arsene-Akroso-Manso Constituency (George Kwame Aboagye)
MP for Achiase Constituency, (Kofi Marfo) MP for Upper West Akim (Frederick Obeng Adom), and MP for Akim Oda (Alexander Akwasi Aquah) were other dignitaries who graced the occasion.
