The bridge linking Cape Coast to Twifo Praso in the Central Region, which collapsed on Saturday, June 18, 2022 is undergoing repair works.
According to the Head of Public Relations for the Ghana Highways Authority, Cecil Obodai Wentum, they were waiting for the run off to recede so that the repair works can commence.
“The only problem or challenge was that there was the need for us to wait for the water to recede so that the contractor would start work,” he said.
Mr. Wentum also noted that the contractor has collected as many boulders as possible and is using them to fill the portions that have been cut off.
Angelonline.com.gh earlier reported that the heavy downpour in the early hours of Saturday, June 18, 2022 in the Central Region has led to the destruction of the main bridge linking the Central Regional capital, Cape Coast to Twifo Praso.
Videos available to Angelonline.com.gh indicated that this has led to many motorists and other commuters being stranded.
The situation further led to the Central Regional Director for National Disaster Management Organisation [NADMO], Mr Joseph Donkoh to appeal to the motoring public to immediately assess an alternative means of travelling.
Mr Donkoh said due to the heavy downpour of rain in the Denkyira Jukwa and it environs, the only bridge that link Cape Coast, Jukwa to Kakum National Park and Twifo Praso has been destroyed; so it not good for commuters plying that road to use it.
