The minority in Parliament through its ranking member on finance committee, Cassiel Ato Forson has called on the Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to resign as the chairman of the economic management team of the country following his abysmal performance.
Addressing the press at Parliament, he declared that “the Vice President has failed in his supervision, he has failed in the work that he has been mandated to do so he has no business to sit in that office as chairman of the economic management team.
“I call on you directly Mr. Vice President to resign as chairman of the economic management team now to save the Ghanaian cedi and the economy…we need that now.”
He also called on the governor of Bank of Ghana to resign since he has a role to play in the management of the economy.
He explained that, the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta reports directly to the Vice President on issues of the finance so therefore, if the economy of the country has gotten to such deplorable state, then it is clear indication that, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has failed on that mandate and must resign immediately.
Mr Ato Forson, who doubles as MP for Ejumako-Enyan-Essiam further gave seven reasons why the finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta must be removed from office as finance minister of Ghana.
Prior to the minority’s call, some Parliamentarians within the majority caucus demanded that the President sacks Finance Minister.
The MPs, numbering about 80 threatened to frustrate government business in the house if President Akufo-Addo fails to need their request.
In recent times, calls for reshuffling within the Akufo-Addo-led administration has increased with some members of the public calling for heads of some government appointees but the president has defended that his Minister’s have done exceptionally well and therefore he has no reason to relieve them of their duties.
