The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has declared his unflinching support for the Black Stars going into the day’s game against Portugal.
The much-anticipated World Cup campaign opener for the Stars kicks off at 4pm on Thursday, at Stadium 974 in Doha, Qatar.
The game features the likes of Christiano Ronaldo who is leading his side together with Bruno Fernandes, Pepe, Diogo Costa among others for the Portuguese side whereas the Ghanaian side has players like Dede Ayew (captain), Jordan Ayew, Thomas Partey, and Inaki Williams.
The Portugal team was the last team Ghana lost 2-1 to when they faced off at the 2014 World cup in Brasil.
Ghana could not qualify for the 2018 world Cup that took place in Russia, but having qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which is taking place in Qatar and playing their first game against Portugal today, Mr Alban Bagbin expressed his support for the stars tipping them to win the group game against Christiano Ronaldo’s side.
“We’ll win today’s march…I have dressed to celebrate, nobody stop me from celebrating today, not even Ronaldo,” he said while addressing the legislature on Thursday.
The Speaker is one among many other state officials who have expressed their support behind the Black Stars, inciting the public to rally behind Coach Otto Addo’s team.
Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is among such persons who wrote a piece saying “We have a group of talented players, who have been selected and they cannot be intimidated by anyone.
“I want to urge the Blacks Stars to go on and play their hearts out for Mother Ghana” he urged and added, “We can stand the world, we have done it before, we can do it again.”
