Parliamentary aspirants for Abuakwa North Constituency in the Eastern Region for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rev. Charles Yeboah Darko, on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, filed his nomination form at the party’s office in Akim Tafo.
Filing his form, ‘OZEY’ as affectionately called made himself available for the upcoming race slated for May 13th, 2023, as he bid his parliamentarian ambitions.
The aspirants, who seeks to contest the race and probably represent the party in the parliamentary election for the second time is adamant of wining the Abuakwa North parliamentary seat and help the party to recapture power in 2024.
Rev. Charles Yeboah Darko, a 2020 Parliamentary candidate for Abuakwa North for the NDC lost the seat as a first timer to incumbent NPP MP Gifty Twum Ampofo, garnering over 15,000 votes. However, the votes amassed in his defeat became a record as the highest votes recorded in the history of the party in the constituency.
Speaking to Kontihen Kofi Oboh after filing his nomination, the parliamentarian hopeful said with the dwindling economy of the NPP government, it places him at an advantageous position this time around if elected at the primaries.
According to him, he expects an increase in his votes come 2024 because even in 2020 when the ruling party had claimed of performing better with the then economy, almost some 2,000 members of the NPP defected and vote for the NDC.
On the back of that, he believes front-running the NDC in Abuakwa North would be key to fostering development for the people due to his fan base and track record as he seeks to unseat the incumbent NPP Member of Parliament of the area Gifty Twum Ampofo.
Asking the delegates to repose their trust in him for the second time at the primaries by giving him the nod, ‘Ozey’ urged Ghanaians to exercise some restraint on Akuffo-Addo’s worsening administration because John Dramani Mahama is returning to rescue them from the hardship.
Meanwhile, the NDC communication officer for Abuakwa North constituency, Alhaji Abdul Wahab registered his displeasure about how their former parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Ambassador Emmanuel Victor Smith wants to run down the party in the area.
According to him, Mr, Smith is allegedly teaming up with some former regional executives to present an “alien” to contest Rev. Yeboah Darko who is their sure bet for the party in the constituency.
Mr. Wahab then condemned the behavior of Victor Smith and hinted that his utterances clearly indicated he did not vote for the party in 2020 and thus his continuous acts portray division.
The communication officer thus warned Victor Smith to desist from his actions or consider not stepping his foot at Abuakwa North before and during the party’s upcoming primaries since he has nothing better to offer the party at the constituency level.
He however used the opportunity to call on the national executives of the main opposition party most especially the chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and General Secretary, Fiifi Kwatey to call Victor Emmanuel Smith to order as his behavior tends to bring disunity than the oneness they prayed for.
