A member for the Movement For Change, Kofi Kapito, says the recently launched ‘Tap N Go’ mobile application platform launched by the Vice President, Dr. Mahadu Bawumia to facilitate easy transportation among the public, is not new.
According to Mr. Kapito, the has been deployed in other countries for years now and has contributed greatly to making public commuting easier and faster.
“It is good they are bringing some to Ghana, to prevent money that needs to end up in the hands of the government from entering the pocket of conductors, mates and drivers,” Kapito stated on the morning show Wednesday, February 20, while contributing to a panel discussion on Angel 102.9 FM which was also streamed live on Angel TV.
The Tap & Go Transport Initiative, a collaborative effort between the government and private investors, aims to modernize the reservation of seats on public transport and the subsequent payment of fares.
This initiative is structured to enable users of public transport to load funds onto their Tap & Go Transport cards or accounts, simplifying the fare payment process.
However, Kofi Kapito who is consumer protection advocate, cautioned communicators for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) against creating the impression that “everything good in Ghana was done by him [Vice President].”
“When did POS come to Ghana? The same technology,” the Chief Executive Officer at Consumer Protection Authority stated.
