The board and management of Nsein SHS, Nsein Traditional Council, and the Old Students Association have announced the restoration of the school’s name to Kwame Nkrumah Senior High School, Nsein.
This decision marks a significant milestone in honoring the legacy of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president.
According to Mr. Venerable Anthony M. Eiwuley, former Board Chairman and old student, the school was originally named after Dr. Nkrumah, whose regime built it, but was changed to Axim Secondary School after the 1966 coup d’etat. The traditional council later renamed it Nsein Secondary School due to its location on Nsein soil.
The official inauguration of the restored name is set for September 21, coinciding with Dr. Nkrumah’s 105th birthday anniversary. This will make the school the only second-cycle institution in Ghana named after the first president.
The decision follows a historic declaration by the paramount chief of the area, Nana Agyefi Kwame II, during the school’s 60th anniversary celebration in November 2022, paving the way for the board of governors to unanimously approve the renaming.
This development is a significant tribute to Dr. Nkrumah’s legacy and a testament to the community’s efforts to honor his memory.
