The residence of the leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumi has become the new centre of attraction for supporters of the party after their defeat in the 2024 Presidential elections.
The supporters who are mainly clad in the party’s T-shirts and other forms of paraphernalia arrive in badges to console the leader of the party who recorded 41% of valid votes cast in the 2024 elections. They were supporters from the Korle Klottey, Ayawaso East, Weija-Gbawe, Anyaa Sowutuom and Trobu constituencies.
Leaders of these groups including the newly elected MPs for Anyaa-Sowutuom, Weija-Gbawe and Trobu applauded his efforts in the elections with some claiming that his efforts inspired them to also campaign well so victory could be theirs.
Elder Emmanuel Tobbin of Anyaa-Sowutuom, Jerry Ahmed of Weija-Gbawe and Gloria Owusu of Trobu aside encouraging Dr Bawumia also pledged their support for him in his future aspirations.
“His Excellency, you have shown to the whole who world that you are a classic leader…we are begging you don’t relent and don’t go back and sit down, we know what you are capable of doing and that is why you are the leader of the party, and if there is a comeback, God should bless it…,” the newly elected MP for Weija-Gbawe said.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who looked surprise at the presence of such large number of party supporters at his residence thanked them for their unflinching support and urged them to continue to serve the party in unity.
He emphasised that, upon analysing the election results, it became clear that the NPP inadvertently handed power to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) rather than the opposition party outperforming their 2020 results.
“We couldn’t meet our expectations that is why we conceded. That doesn’t mean it is over. We lost a battle, not the war. I want to encourage you all. In this election, we were the ones that gave the victory to NDC. They didn’t win because their numbers didn’t change from 2020.
“Ours reduced by 40 percent. I want you all to understand that united we stand, but divided we fall. I have seen many people in pain, but I have an abiding belief in God. His ways are not our ways.
“Blame games will destroy us. Let us stand together. Stop the blame games. Let’s look at the future. Let’s concentrate on strengthening the party. It is not about individual ambition. I know we will come out successful,” Dr Bawumia said.
