Organisers of the Ghana League Club Association (GHALCA) have formally announced that the 2025 GHALCA Top 4 tournament will now be staged at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon, instead of the Accra Sports Stadium.
The change follows recommendations from pitch maintenance consultants, Green Grass Technology, who advised that the Accra Sports Stadium, currently Ghana’s only CAF/FIFA-approved venue, should be reserved exclusively for the Black Stars’ upcoming World Cup qualifier against Chad on September 8.
The recommendation came after an inspection of the pitch following the Homowo Cup final on August 17, between Accra Hearts of Oak face Kpando Hearts of Lions.
The assessment highlighted the need to protect the playing surface ahead of the international fixture.
Reports, Green Grass Technology warned that scheduling the GHALCA Top 4 close to the Black Stars’ camping period could leave the pitch in poor condition prior to the qualifier.
The national team is expected to begin camping in Ghana on August 31 before travelling to Chad for their away tie on September 4.
The GHALCA Top 4 tournament, traditionally regarded as the curtain-raiser for the Ghana Premier League season, will now kick off on Wednesday, August 20, at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon.
The competition opens today with Kumasi Asante Kotoko facing league champions Bibiani Gold Stars at 3:00 PM, followed by Accra Hearts of Oak taking on Kpando Hearts of Lion at 6:00 PM.
