Bibiani Gold Stars launched their 2025 GHALCA Top 4 campaign with a 2-1 comeback win over Kumasi Asante Kotoko on Wednesday, courtesy of a bizarre own goal at the University of Ghana Stadium.
The preseason tournament, featuring the top four clubs from last season’s Premier League, kicked off today and runs through Sunday, August 24.
Kotoko opened the scoring in the 16th minute through forward Albert Amoah, but Gold Stars responded swiftly.
Six minutes later, the league champions were awarded a contentious penalty, sparking protests from Kotoko players. Samuel Atta Kumi held his nerve from the spot to level the score.
The second half saw both sides battle for control, but it was a miscue from Kotoko defender Henry Ansu that proved decisive his own goal sealing victory for the Premier League champions.
Kumasi Asante Kotoko will now face Heart of Lions and Hearts of Oak next, on August 22 and 24 respectively.
