The Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) of the Abuakwa South Assembly has convened an emergency meeting to address the acute water shortage affecting Kyebi and surrounding communities.
The meeting, held on Tuesday, August 26, was prompted by the temporary closure of the Kyebi water treatment plant due to contamination from harmful chemicals linked to illegal mining activities commonly known as galamsey in the catchment area
Angelonline.com.gh, reported that the situation had plunge the entire area into crisis, with limited access to portable water for domestic use.
In a bid to tackle the crisis head-on, MUSEC assembled key stakeholders to deliberate on immediate interventions aimed at restoring water supply and mitigating the environmental impact of galamsey operations.
“An update on the Kyebi water situation, they [MUSEC] held an emergency meeting,” a reliable source disclosed.
The council’s swift intervention is expected to yield positive results in the coming weeks, offering relief to residents of Kyebi and adjoining communities who rely heavily on the water treatment facility.
