Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo has directed traders on the Kaneshie footbridge to vacate the area by January 2, 2026, citing safety concerns due to the bridge’s deteriorating condition. The minister warned that authorities will forcibly remove traders if they don’t comply.
The footbridge has been in disrepair for years, with traders occupying the space and contributing to its deterioration. Previous deadlines, including one set for April 2025, haven’t yielded much compliance from traders.
“We have come here several times to warn them but it yielded no results,” she added.
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) plans to repair the bridge and ensure pedestrians’ safety. Authorities are exploring alternative trading spaces for affected vendors to minimize disruptions.
The move aims to address safety risks and improve conditions for pedestrians using the busy Kaneshie Market footbridge.
