The President’s Special Envoy for the Sahel, Col. Larry Gbevlo Lartey, has formally received a Nigerian aircraft and its crew after their release from detention in Burkina Faso.
The aircraft and its personnel had been held by Burkinabe authorities over allegations of violating the country’s airspace.
In a statement issued by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament and Spokesperson to the President, the matter was resolved amicably, paving the way for the crew’s safe transfer to Ghana following diplomatic engagement.
Welcoming the aircrew on behalf of the President, Col. Gbevlo Lartey commended both the Nigerian and Burkinabe governments for their cooperation in settling the dispute through dialogue.
The statement, he emphasized that the incident underscored the spirit of unity within the West African subregion, noting that “we are brothers and sisters and can resolve our differences in a neighbourly manner.”
According to the statement, the crew will remain in Ghana temporarily to conduct technical checks on the aircraft before continuing their journey to Portugal, where the plane is scheduled for servicing.
