Ghanaian rapper, Andy Agyemang, also known as Ypee, has stirred intense debate on social media following blunt comments he made about male–female friendships during a recent interview with Zionfelix.
Speaking openly on the show, the artiste stated that he does not believe genuine friendship can exist between a man and a woman without romantic or sexual intentions.
“I don’t befriend a lady. If a lady comes to you and tells you I’m her best friend, she is telling lies because I don’t believe in a girl and boy friendship. I don’t believe it’s true,” Ypee said.
The rapper went further to challenge men who are comfortable with their partners having male best friends, suggesting such friendships are often deceptive.
“Friendship in the name of ‘besties’….let your girlfriend call that bestie at dawn and say she wants to have sex and see what the so-called bestie will do. He will be eager to go and have the girl satisfied,” he added.
Explaining his personal stance, Ypee admitted that whenever he gets close to a woman, intimacy is usually part of the equation.
“If I befriend a lady, then I have to sleep with her because if I take you as a friend, what are we going to talk about? I have a lot of male friends I can chat with, so why will I chat with a lady?” he stated.
